The Office of Education Equity and Outreach was established in September of 2017 specifically to address the achievement gap through the development of an equity plan, training, and community partnerships. The office has already conducted extensive training with teachers and administrators on culturally responsive classrooms, with the goal of having all 2000 of the district’s teachers trained by the Spring of 2018. The office is conducting additional equity training in the district, and has made numerous presentations to local community sponsored groups, along with meeting with parents, and other community stakeholders. The Equity department is also facilitating a year-long book-study with all of the school based administrative staff using the book by Glenn Singleton entitled Courageous Conversations About Race—A Field Guide for Achieving Equity in Schools.
