Flu Vaccine Program

Once again parents have the opportunity to protect their children and families from the flu by taking advantage of the FREE flu vaccine program in Alachua County schools.

The program, sponsored by the Alachua County Health Department, the University of Florida and other partners, has been offering free flu immunizations to all school-aged children in the county for several years now. As a result, Alachua County has experienced fewer hospital visits due to flu and flu-related illnesses and reduced absenteeism among students and staff.

This year, the program will be providing flu SHOTS rather than a nasal spray due to the reduced effectiveness of the spray for this year’s flu strains. Parents of Pre-K, Headstart and Kindergarten students must be present while their child is vaccinated.

Flu immunization is still the best way to protect your children and family from the flu.

More information on the flu vaccine program and the vaccine itself are available through the links on the left hand side of this page, as is the required consent form. Please complete the form and have your child return it to his or her teacher by September 22. We ask that all parents complete and return the form even if they do not want their child to participate.
