Girls of Promise is a 2 day STEM conference that focuses on providing opportunities to introduce young girls to a variety of STEM careers that they may be interested in. The conference included keynote speakers, workshops, classes, and tours. These tours included information on or visits to the following: coding, medical, going Green, Museum of Discovery, Heifer International, visiting with the Governor about STEM, and using 3D printers.
This conference is sponsored by several corporations and businesses around Arkansas so that it is free to 8th grade girls. Hundreds of girls apply and only 150 are accepted. I am very proud of our 5 AMS students (Sidney Hatley, LeeAnna Rose, Lydia Bowerman, Lydia Swarnes, Bella Nutt) who wrote 2 different essays and completed the application process which included a letter of recommendation from a teacher to be accepted.
