A prefix is a wod part placed in front of a base word that usually changes the meaning of the base word.  The following prefixes account for 97 percent of prefixed words in printed English:

     dis-               not, opposite of               disagree

     in-, im-         not                                     injustice, impossible

     il-, ir-

     re-                again                                  return

     un                not                                      unfriendly
