Book Bash: May 12 (Grades 3-5) May 13 (6th Grade)
Purpose: to encourage students to read the Sunshine State Young Readers' Award books and to offer students the time to enjoy activities tied to these books. SSYRA is a statewide reading motivation program which is cosponsored by the School Library Media Services
Office of The Florida Department of Education and the Florida Association for Media in Education. Each year 15 books are selected for students in grades 3-5 and another 15
books for students in grades 6-8. Participating schools in Brevard County gather at
selected school sites to engage in various activities based on the reading of the Sunshine State Books. Students have fun as they create book jackets, play book jeopardy and dramatize scenes from the books they have read.
BOOK QUEST/JEOPARDY FORMAT
Team of four students answers questions about the books in a style resembling the TV
game show of the same name. The categories will include authors, titles, characters, word meanings, genre, plots, settings, and themes.
Team of two to four students creates a poster-sized book jacket which will include the title, author, illustrator (if applicable) and a summary/abstract from materials provided at the competition. The title for the Book Jacket will be drawn at the Book Bash. Judging will be based on creativity/originality, content, visual appeal, and accuracy and appeal of the summary.
