Welcome to Averill Park High School's Academic Departments!

The academic development of our students is a priority to the faculty, staff and leadership team at Averill Park High School.  Students have the opportunity to partake in an array of offerings, both required courses and student-chosen electives, within 16 departments school-wide.  Our faculty of over 100 highly-qualified instructors is committed to maximizing the academic growth of each individual student.   The annual NYS School Report Card clearly demonstrates that students at Averill Park High School consistently perform well on New York State assessments, and we continue to see growth each year.  This year, nearly 200 students took AP Exams, with 175 students scoring a 3 or better.  We are proud that over 85% of our students continue on to post-secondary education after graduation.  Our faculty and staff are engaged in the ongoing development of unique curricular and instructional initiatives which continue to make a difference in student performance.  Our Curriculum Council, made up of Teacher Leaders from each department at all levels, has been working for several years to provide leadership in the development and alignment of K-12 Curriculum Maps.  At the high school, we employ a variety of programmatic and instructional strategies to support student success.  Some of these recently include lab-based instruction in the Sciences, looping in the two-year Global Studies sequence, team-teaching in a variety of courses, as well as unique and engaging interdisciplinary courses.   Take the time to explore the options available to our students by clicking on the departments listed under "contents".  If you have any question, please feel free to contact any member of the Building Leadership Team, Faculty, or Counseling Center.
