Indiana Chapter PASR presents awards

The Indiana County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees (PASR) recently recognized several individuals for their excellent contributions to public school education.

The Lauretta Woodson Award was presented to Blairsville-Saltsburg School District staff members, Jeff Smathers, second grade teacher at Saltsburg Elementary, and Alice Santoro, administrative assistant.  Dr. Lauretta Woodson was a longtime supporter of public education and was instrumental in helping PASR become what it is today.  This awards program has been developed to bring positive publicity to public schools.  It is designed to recognize one educator and one support professional for doing an outstanding job within a school district.  These individuals have exhibited creativity, initiative, or productivity relevant to the learning process and growth of children.  Mr. Smathers was acknowledged for being a natural leader with an exemplary work ethic, having contagious enthusiasm and for being a committed education professional demonstrating a true passion for teaching.  Mrs. Santoro earned recognition for her knowledge of state and federal programs to benefit the district’s mission, placing the students’ education as her first priority in securing funds and materials and for her efficiency and expertise in central administration.
