Summer Institute at Boston Arts Academy

The Summer Institute for Arts in Education was supported in part by a grant from the BPS Arts Expansion Fund.

BAA offered its first Summer Institute for Arts in Education in July 2004. It was a huge success, with over 35 teachers and administrators from across the country in attendance. The second annual BAA Summer Institute for Arts in Education brought in nearly 60 participants from local to international schools and districts. Many districts expressed interest in working with BAA on a consulting basis as they prepare to open new schools or reform existing schools.

Imagine    Interact    Innovate

Imagine, Interact and Innovate at the eighth annual Boston Arts Academy Summer Institute for Arts in Education! BAA's 2011 Summer Institute will take place at the Boston Arts Academy's campus in Boston, Massachusetts from June 29 - July 2, 2011.

This year's focus will be Art/Science: Examining the Intersections Where Art and Science Meet. The program will include speakers, presentations, and workshops focusing on the interdisciplinary nature of art and science. The program will include, but not be limited to, themes of math, engineering, science and technology, using the lens of various arts disciplines to engage students and maximize learning.

In addition, the Institute will provide participants with a window on how BAA, a full-inclusion urban high school, is using the arts as a catalyst for school change and to successfully narrow the achievement gap. Since its founding in 1998, the BAA has consistently sent over 94% of graduates on to two and four year colleges.

Who

The BAA Summer Institute is for K-12 teachers, administrators and district-level professionals who want to learn more about interdisciplinary teaching and learning. Schools sending teams of four or more will have an opportunity to work together as a school group toward school-wide planning in daily facilitated sessions. Schools attending as teams will develop action plans during the week for implementation in home schools during the following school year. Participants attending as individuals will develop personal goals and personal action plans to be applied to their teaching or administrative roles.
