Adult Basic Education is a non-graded, open entry/open exit program that uses self-paced instructional modules, computer-aided instruction, and performance-based evaluation. Placement is based on an individual needs assessment with a state-approved assessment instrument. Classes provide basic literacy and life skills instruction for adults who are performing at or below the eighth grade level. Instruction addresses basic literacy in all areas of knowledge with courses that are designed to develop literacy skills. Additionally, instruction targets the basic skills of reading, language, and mathematics thorough contectualized curriculum designed to provide and/or improve the employability of basic education students. Finally, Adult Basic Education prepares students to enroll in GED preparation or adult high school classes. This program is offered online as well as onsite.
