BPS Schools to Celebrate National Bike to School Day
BREVARD COUNTY, FLA. – Brevard County Schools will join schools from around the country to celebrate the third annual National Bike to School Day on Wednesday, May 7, 2014. Students, in participating schools, will be riding their bikes to school along with parents, teachers and community leaders.
Bike to School Day encourages a nationwide bike-focused celebration for students in the month of May as part of National Bicycle Month. The event also raises awareness of the need to create safer routes for bicycling and walking and emphasizes the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, bicycle/pedestrian safety, reducing traffic congestion and concern for the environment.
The Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization promotes Bike to School Day as part of its Safe Routes to School Program and encourages all schools to participate. Participating Brevard schools represent about 24% of the schools joining in Florida.
Local schools participating in the event are listed below:
Cape View Elementary
Challenger 7 Elementary
DeLaura Middle School
Harbor City Elementary
Oak Park Elementary
Palm Bay Elementary
Port Malabar Elementary
