BPS gives 1.5 percent raise to ‘non-bargaining’ employees

Dec. 13, 2017

VIERA, Florida -- The school board decided Tuesday December 12 to move forward with a 1.5 percent annual pay raise for about 790 BPS employees who are not represented by unions in collective bargaining.

Such “non-bargaining” employees include school administrators, department managers, technology associates, program coordinators and administrative assistants.

School administrators including principals and assistant principals will receive differentiated pay increases based on performance, as required by Florida law, instead of a flat 1.5 percent.

Non-bargaining employees will receive the pay increase in their December 29th paycheck. This raise is retroactive to July 1, 2017. These employees will receive the retroactive pay in their January 31st paycheck.

The school board voted 5-0 to direct Superintendent Desmond Blackburn to provide a 1.5 percent raise for non-bargaining employees. This represents the same percentage increase offered to both Brevard Federation of Teachers and the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades Local 1010.  Pay increases for BPS employees could be revisited if additional funding were identified in resolving an impasse with the Brevard Federation of Teachers.
