Emerging technologies are constantly placing new demands on the seasonal landscape professional. Only those who are familiar with the latest technology will survive. Our graduates will be among them. Pesticide use will be more and more curtailed as natural systems of combating disease and insects are actively sought. Landscapers will need to become botanists of the first caliber in order to function in today’s market. Because of increased people pressure on the land, there is a growing demand for knowledgeable landscape technicians.  The technicians will need to have a working knowledge of the following tools:

  • SKID STEER LOADERImage
  • DUMP BODY AND LIFT GATE TRUCK
  • LARGE AND SMALL TRACTOR
  • FRONT END LOADER AND BACKHOE
  • DE-THATCHER, EDGER, ROLLER, MOWER
  • VARIOUS CLIPPERS
  • MULCH GRINDER
  • DRAFTING TOOLS AND TEMPLATES
  • COMPUTERS FOR BUSINESS, DESIGN, & DESK TOP PUBLISHING

Students at Bristol County Agricultural High School have the opportunity to study and have hands on experience within our extensive school campus. Students are encouraged to put design, building, and estimating skills to use in real world situations. Some of the areas of design and construction include:

  • NATURAL PLANT RELATIONSHIPSImage
  • PLANTS AND THEIR ROLE IN THE LANDSCAPE
  • INSECT AND DISEASE IDENTIFICATION AND MANAGEMENT
  • LANDSCAPE DESIGN AND DRAFTING
  • LANDSCAPE COST ESTIMATING
  • LANDSCAPE CONSTRUCTION

Landscape projects begin with proper planning.  Drafting skills, labor and material costs are known before each project begins.  Students learn to manage projects as well as work on them.  As with all fields, often further study is required in order to become:

  • BOTANISTS
  • AGRONOMISTSImage
  • NURSERY OPERATORS
  • NURSERY MANAGERS
  • INDOOR LANDSCAPE DESIGNERS
  • TURF MANAGERS/PRODUCERS
  • GOLF COURSE GREENS-KEEPERS
