Some awesome things are happening after 3:30pm at Calhoun County Middle/High School. During the ASPIRE After-School Program students complete their homework and learn valuable skills for academics, explore new knowledge, and socialize in a safe environment. Not only are students having an enriching time, but students receive a dinner prepared with love by Donna Schoolcraft.
During late September and into October students are working to understand drones and how they work. On October 5th, ASPIRE will be celebrating National Youth Science Day by flying drones and making their own videos.
During the weeks leading up to October 31st, students of ASPIRE will be creating a way to protect a pumpkin from smashing when it is dropped out a window. They will have to create their own contraptions in teams and compete with one another on October 31st to see who has the best pumpkin drop design.
On October 25th, from 3:30pm to 6pm the community is invited to come to the Scholastic Book Fair hosted by CCMHS’ Librarian Cathy Pierce. ASPIRE and Mrs. Pierce are partnering to host the Community Book Fair. Further, ASPIRE will be hosting a literacy night for parents to learn what they can do to help boost the reading ability of their students. This will be hosted by Cody J. Cunningham, Site Coordinator of ASPIRE at CCMHS. More information can be had by contacting Cody at email@example.com.
On October 31st from 4pm to 6pm the community is invited to come and see what goes on at ASPIRE After-School. We are having an open house and have invited all political candidates for the November election to come out and be with the people. Refreshments will be served. We are calling this an Evening for the People. Those who attend will be able to learn more about the election from the people running, ASPIRE is demonstrating our drones, hosting our pumpkin drop, and there will be Halloween themed STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) activities for all middle/high school students of Calhoun County.
If you are interested in hosting a club or workshop at the school, contact Cody. Would you like your student to attend ASPIRE, let Cody know and he’ll get a sign-up packet to you.
We hope the community will come out and see some of the great things happening at CCMHS and look forward to seeing and talking with all of you. Only together can we move forward and give our students the future they deserve.
