The ABC Unified School District would like to alert parents regarding a troublesome mobile application called Ogle. Ogle is designed for high school and college students to post videos and pictures about themselves, other students and their school campuses. The application allows users to submit photos, make comments and post content without censorship and in total anonymity.
The ABC Unified School District advises parents the Ogle app is being used to spread harmful, hurtful and negative messages, including threats to schools. Not only is the app not serving its stated purpose to be a positive and fun creative outlet for students at school, the app has rather delivered hurtful and harmful messages on campuses throughout the State, including ABC Schools. Last week in ABC, one Ogle post threatened school violence that the District and Cerritos Sheriffs Department quickly determined to have been a hoax.
ABC Unified School District recommends that parents remove this app from student phones. The App is blocked from access on school owned devices, and the district's Wi-Fi and technology network, but remains accessible via student owned smartphones.
