Dows Lane Assistant Principal Appointed

The Irvington School Board of Education and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kristopher Harrison are pleased to announce the appointment of Andrea Kantor as the assistant principal at Dows Lane Elementary School, effective Oct. 27. Dr. Kantor joins Irvington from the Katonah-Lewisboro Union Free School District, where she served as the districtwide staff developer and reading specialist for 11 years.

“I am thrilled to invite Dr. Kantor to join the Dows Lane family,” Dr. Harrison said. “She is a dynamic educator who will be a wonderful partner with Principal [Deborah] Mariniello and staff.”

Having been in the field for 25 years, Dr. Kantor brings a wealth of experience to the district and a commitment to ensure quality education for all students by playing a key role in developing a positive school environment that engages students and faculty. She is a charismatic leader and proven educator who possesses a talent for capturing students’ and teachers’ interest in learning by providing training, support and guidance.

“Her thoughtful nature, love of children and positive energy will serve Dows Lane well,” Principal Mariniello said. “I am looking forward to working together with the Dows Lane staff, families and children to provide the very best learning experiences each and every day.”

During her tenure at Katonah-Lewisboro, Dr. Kantor served as an RTI interventionist, reading specialist and mentor. She provided students in kindergarten through 12th grade with intensive instruction in reading and writing. In her most recent role as a districtwide staff developer, she was instrumental in creating and leading professional development throughout the district in active learning environments, best instructional practices, lesson design, performance-based assessments and technology integration.

Dr. Kantor earned her bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Sociology from Northwestern University, and earned her master’s degree in Elementary Education and her doctorate in Applied Psychology Foundations of Reading from New York University.
