The law requires that your children be in attendance at school whenever your child’s school is open for instruction. The only approved vacation periods for U-46 Elgin Public Schools occur during Winter Recess, Spring Recess and Summer Vacation. Review the school calendars before planning any family vacations.
The Illinois School Code requires that every parent supplies the school with TWO (2) working phone numbers at which the parent may be reached for the purpose of making parent contacts for attendance, and in the event of an emergency regarding your child.
Report an Absence
Due to our ongoing efforts to assure the health of all students, we ask that you provide specific information regarding possible illness when you call to report an absence. Please indicate whether any of the following scenarios are true.
- Your child is ill or has flu like symptoms which include: cough, sore throat, fever over 100 degrees.
- Your child has other reasons for being absent today (for example, other sickness, injury, funeral, etc.).
- You are concerned about your child becoming sick, and are keeping them home as a preventative measure.
If your child does have a fever, he or she must remain at home, fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication (i.e., Advil, Tylenol, Motrin, etc.) before returning to school.
Please also indicate the following information:
- Student's full name
- Grade Level
- Teacher's Name
You can report a student absent by either calling the main office number (847-888-7182) or emailing us at BethSullivan@u-46.org or JenniferOneal@u-46.org.
