Lake Wilderness Principal Audrey Meyers, Ph.D., sought out a job with the Tahoma School District because of its vision and culture.
“What drew me here – why I wanted to be here in this district and at Lake Wilderness – is the community feel,” Meyers said. “There’s a real collaborative sense of wanting to work together. I could sense that right away.”
Asked what she wants parents and students to know, Meyers said, “I’m here and really do care about their kids. My goal is to carry forward the great work that has already been done here at Lake Wilderness, and to do that collaboratively with staff and students.”
Meyers started at Lake Wilderness in the fall of 2014. Originally from Spokane, Meyers received her degrees from Washington State University, and worked in the Tukwila and Auburn school districts before serving as principal at Enatai Elementary School in Bellevue.
In June, the district celebrated the groundbreaking of the new Lake Wilderness Elementary, which is being built on the play field behind the current buildings. Construction will be completed next summer, and the school will open in the fall of 2017.
"For many years Lake Wilderness Elementary has been a place where memories and friendships run deep," Meyers said at the groundbreaking. "As we build the new Lake Wilderness and face the many changes that are ahead, we must remember, and take with us, the incredible spirit and camaraderie that lie within the walls of Lake Wilderness. It is not the bricks and mortar that make Lake Wilderness a special place, but rather the people that make Lake Wilderness so special."
