Summer Food Service Program

Site Announcement for 2012

The Lansing School District announces the sponsorship of the Summer Food Service Program for Children.  Free Meals will be made available to children 18 years of age and under or persons up to age 26 who are enrolled in an educational program for the mentally or physically disabled that is recognized by a State or local public educational agency.  The meals will be provided without regard to race, color, national origin, age, sex, or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. The Mission of the Food & Nutrition Services Department is to provide nutritious and appealing food choices to children as a means of improving and enhancing their ability to learn in a safe and nurturing environment.

Under private direction with ARAMARK Education, the Food & Nutrition Services Department operates the National School Breakfast and Lunch Programs in all of the district's schools.  Sixteen schools also participate in the After School Snack Program along with five area community and/or after care centers.  In addition, the department contracts to provide services for two Headstart programs and one day care center.  During the summer months, the department operates the Summer Food Service Program, which has provided meals to children at 30 plus sites throughout the greater Lansing area.  The department also provides catering services for functions throughout the district, as well as, throughout the community.
