Fundamentals

 

These are a series of substantially separate academic classes taught by special education staff. The curriculum is based on the Massachusetts Core Curriculum and Lowell High School Curriculum. The pace and delivery of instruction are modified.

 

Adjustment

 

Special Education staff work with students who have been identified with an emotional disability. The services are provided in inclusive or substantially separate settings to ensure social, emotional and academic success.

 

Life Skills

 

Special Education staff teaches functional academics, prevocational, vocational, community awareness and adult daily living skills. The activities are presented to carry over into work settings and the community. The program incorporates Home and Personal care skills that stress the importance of dignity and increased opportunities for independence in home and community settings. All students can learn critical skills that will enhance their quality of life such as an individual’s need to belong, need for self-esteem, and need for self-actualization. The students are not enrolled in a diploma program and receive a certificate of attendance upon completion.

 Intensive Special Needs


With a focus on Independence and Quality of Life, the Intensive Special Needs teacher, nurse, and paraprofessionals work with students with complex medical and cognitive needs. Students experience a wide range of learning opportunities including academics, Activities of Daily Living, socialzation and vocational skills. Additionally a broad spectrum of theraputic services is provided.  The students are not enrolled in a diploma program and receive a certificate of attendance upon completion.
