As the 2018 Winter Olympics were taking place in Pyeongchang, South Korea, students at Main Street School participated in modified versions of the winter sport events during their physical education classes.
Some of the events the students competed in were speed skating, luge and biathlon. Each day, they learned about the history of each event, tracked the medal count for all countries and watched a few of the Olympic events such as curling, skeleton, speed skating, luge and skiing, which were streamed online.
“While watching, the students learned about each event, the equipment used and the scoring,” physical education teacher Laura Shaw said. “With the Olympic Games going on, it was a great opportunity to introduce students to a variety of winter sports that they may not be familiar with. The students were very excited to learn about each sport and have the opportunity to try it within our classes.”
