Congratulations to Academy of Hospitality Management students Kyrsten and Nicole. In Orlando March 6-9 they competed at the DECA State Career Development Conference. As a Marketing Management team they took 2nd place in the Billabong Challenge – Recycler Series campaign. 180 billion plastic bottles are thrown away every year. Billabong has continually led an environmental push to reduce plastic polyethylene terephthalate (PET) waste, giving it a new life and turning it into recycled boardshorts. 51 million plastic bottles have been recycled into stretch fabric for boardshorts and t-shirts and this fall they will be used for denim pants! Kyrsten and Nicole presented their marketing campaign “Girls Gone Green” by recycling 35 water bottles and using tape, glue, wire, and paints to represent a surf skirt and top for the Billabong Women’s Line.
