Congratulations to the boys lacrosse team for their District win last night against Viera 16-8. They have Regionals next Friday here at MIHS. Come out and support the boys and your school.
Long sleeve Merritt Island Mustang shirts will be available for pre-sale orders through Friday April 20th. You will have your choice between two different logos and two different materials. Prices will be $15 for cotton blend or $20 for dry-fit. You may place your order in the front office any time, or in the commons during both lunches.
Did you know that Plastic bags and other plastic materials in the ocean kill as many as 1 million sea creatures annually. Monday and Tuesday during lunch you can sign a banner pledging to reduce plastic use. On Wednesday wear green to support earth week. The class that wears the most green will win a donut party!
The Off to College & Careers Night has been cancelled due to another meeting being scheduled at the same time. The Guidance Dept apologizes but it will be re-scheduled for the fall.
To all SENIOR Students who donated blood – The OneBlood Club is accepting applications for its OneBlood Scholarship. Senior Blood donors interested in this scholarship MUST complete their application and turn it in by Wednesday, April 18. See Ms. Wallschlag in room D-106 to get your application. If you have donated blood, have a 2.5 GPA, and are a senior going to college – you qualify!
The Academic Awards Committee is offering 2 scholarships to seniors: the first is the Robert E. Bruton scholarship in honor of the first Principal of MIHS. This scholarship was established to encourage students to enter the field of education and students who plan to become teachers are encouraged to apply. The amount of the scholarship varies from year to year. See guidance for a paper application. The second scholarship is the H.D. “Hank” Smith scholarship also to honor a former principal of MIHS. The scholarship is given to a student that is involved in his/her school and community while maintaining high academics. The amount of the scholarship varies from year to year. See guidance for a paper application. Both scholarships are due back by Wednesday, April 25th.
Seniors—if you have won a scholarship and would like to be recognized at the Awards Ceremony in May, you will need to complete a form (available in Guidance) and attach the scholarship letter to the form which is due to Mrs. Luthman in Guidance no later than Friday, April 20th.
All 9th and 10th graders—you are invited to an information meeting about a College Visit Tour in Boston over next year’s spring break. If you have always yearned for an opportunity to go see Boston and some beautiful campuses such as MIT, Harvard, and Northeastern, this is your chance! The meeting will be Monday, April 30th at 6PM in the Media Center. You will need to RSVP on Eventbrite. See Mrs. Luthman in Guidance or the fliers hanging up around campus for the link.
