Wellness Coordinator – Tanya ZakallWelcome back everyone! I hope you all enjoyed your summer as much as I did. My summer consisted of quality time spent with my family, taking in the beauty of nature at the lake and some gardening, and an amazing trip to B.C where I was able to reconnect with family I hadn't seen in years, including my father and step sister.

I want to take a moment to remind parents and students of my role within the school and my availability. In case some of you may not know my role, here is a breakdown.

How do I support students?

-working out friendship problems, offer a listening ear, building self-esteem and confidence, providing a safe place to vent, learning how to make decisions, managing feelings(stress, worry, anger, etc.), provide information and resources, self-control and boundaries.

How can I support you as a parent?

-Improve parent-child communications, referrals to community resources, brainstorming strategies for home/classroom behavior, provide information and awareness, explore ways to help your child succeed.

What do I do within the school?

-develop classroom presentations, facilitate student groups (friendship, girls, boys group), bring in speakers and presentations, raise awareness around health and wellness, provide community resource referrals. * Please note that school wellness coordinators do not provide "therapy" or "counselling"

I will be available in Neilburg daily and Marsden the mornings of days 1, 3 and 5 of the 6 day cycle. We have an open door policy within our schools and I encourage you to take the opportunity to speak with me about any concerns you may have. I am available to speak with students, parents and teachers anytime.

This role also requires me to maintain a confidentiality policy within certain guidelines. If you as a parent or guardian feel you do not want me providing services to your child, please let me know. I respect your choice in doing so. If I do not receive notice that you are unwilling for me to offer support to your child, I will consider it your consent to talk to your child if the need arises.

For the time being, if you feel it would benefit your child to see me at any point, please contact me or their teacher.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. I am open, honest and willing to discuss any concerns you may have.

Please watch for more information I will be sending out in the newsletters! I wish everyone a great year!   Neilburg/Marsden Schools    Neilburg 306-823-4313        Marsden 306-826-5255
