ORGANIZATION

The Schools are governed by a 9-member Advisory Board; 2 members are directly appointed by the U.S. Ambassador. They are incorporated under Macedonian law and accredited by the Macedonian Ministry of Education, the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools (NAAS) and most recently by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO). The school is a member of the Central and Eastern European Schools Association (CEESA).

CURRICULUM

In the Elementary and Middle School, NOVA offers a mastery learning approach to well-defined outcomes for all ages. In the High School it offers a rigorous college-preparatory experience including the International Baccalaureate and the Advanced Placement programs. The curriculum is a balance of the language arts (English language and literature, and foreign languages such as French, Spanish, German, Italian, Macedonian, and Albanian), sciences (mathematics, natural sciences and IT), humanities (social sciences, fine and performing arts) and wellness (physical education, sports and character education). NOVA strongly supports the continuation of learning through extra-curricular activities and service learning opportunities. NOVA is a testing center for the Advanced Placement exams, PSAT, SAT, iBT TOEFL, and the IB Diploma examinations. All of NOVA graduates continue their education with the majority matriculating to American or European institutions of higher learning.

FACILITIES

In 2010, NOVA added a new Elementary and Middle school facility, and a new PK-K facility to its existing High School facility. The entire campus offers wireless connectivity and the latest information technologies, science labs, art, dance, music and photography studios, fitness centers, a book store, computer labs, separate libraries for the Elementary and Middle School as well as for the High School, a full-service kitchen preparing warm meals throughout the campus cafeterias, indoor auditoriums, outdoor amphitheatres, and a sports court. Additionally, NOVA rents nearby sports facilities and state university science laboratories for the needs of its curriculum.
