Stellar Girls is a science program supported by the iBIO Institute’s EDUCATE Center. Mrs. Rojano, Mrs. Dominguez and Mrs. Alba runs this program. The program inspires young women to enter into STEM careers. Stellar Girls introduces girls to current, interesting, “Big Ideas” in STEM fields. Through weekly hands-on program activities, girls explore how science, technology, engineering, and mathematics
are used to feed, fuel, heal and save the world. Participants also have the opportunity to interact with STEM professionals to learn about STEM careers, apply STEM skills to real-world problems, and employ critical-thinking skills through collaborative inquiry.
Exemplifying the Next Generation Science Standards and Common Core State Standards, Stellar Girls activities are woven into units that provide authentic problem contexts and student-centered investigations. Students develop problem-solving skills, deepen core content knowledge, and realize the connections of cross-cutting concepts among various disciplines.
