On April 1st, 2017,Providence Catholic School hosted the annual Spring Gala. This year the Providence Legacy Gala honored women of Providence who have made a positive impact on their community and world at large.
The Providence Legacy Gala took place at the Hilton - Aiport, which accommodated over 400 guests! The large ballroom served as center stage for the evening's entertainment, the Oh So Good Band and our keynote speaker and Providence mother, Leticia Van De Putte. The evening began with a prayer, led by Sister Ann Petrus, CDP Superior General and was followed by presentations made by Principal, Alicia Garcia and Director of Development, Sergio H. Salinas. A couple of the event's most important presentations came from two students, Gabriella Guajardo '17 and Amelia Parvin '22, who both spoke on what a Providence education has meant to them.
Through the hard work of Providence's Video Editing class, a short film was produced that featured the gala's five honorees. María Antonietta Rodríguez Berriozábal '59 (photographed right), Rosalind Vera Benner '62, Mary Alice Cisneros '67, and Jeanne Jakle '73 all spoke about the positive impact that an education taught by the Sisters of Divine Providence had on their lives. Barbara Stewart '73 spoke in memoriam of the gala's fifth honoree, Dora Menchaca '73, who passed away on American Flight 77 on September 11th, 2001. A quarter of the evening's attendees were made up of Providence alumnae who were there in support of the honorees and all Provets, past, present and future. Do you know someone who would be a great honoree for next year's gala? Send us your nomination here!
This year, Providence recruited the help of members of our Community to spread the word, bring in auction items, fill tables and bring in donations. This group of wonderful volunteers, known as the Toni Monies (female) and Tony Monies (male), were made up of parents, alumnae and Providence staff. Together they brought in over $15,000! Providence would like to thank Anita Tijerina, Bea Reed, Tammy Alatorre, Meg Koch Walling '70, Harry Schulz, Gerardo Zavala (shown above far right) and Marcelo Eureste for all of your efforts. The gala was an incredible success thanks to you! If you are interested in taking on this challenge or would like to make a nomination for next year's gala, emailElizabeth Malcher, Community Relations Director.
One of the evening's most memorable moments was a surprise announcement made by Providence alumna andHigh School Table Sponsor, Blanca De La Zerda Garcia '70 and her husband, Dr. Paul Garcia (photographed right). Both guests are continuous supporters of Providence Catholic School and took to the podium to announce their appreciation of the Providence Mission, to prepare young women for the world of tomorrow, and to those who have worked tirelessly to make that happen, including the gala's very own Toni Moni, Meg Koch Walling '70. It was at this moment that Dr. Garcia announced a generous gift of $50,000 in honor of Meg's Toni Moni efforts, on their behalf and in partnership with the Wellmed Medical Group! Providence is eternally thankful for the unwavering generosity of Mrs. and Dr. Garcia. This surprising and joyous moment is photographed above.
The Providence Spring Gala is the school's largest fundraiser of the year. The Providence Community played a major part in helping to make this year's event a great success. Fromeveryone who helped bring in items for an amazing silent auction to those who helped spread the word, filled the seats, volunteered to help prepare for the gala prior to and on the night of the event, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts! Without you our Community would not be the family that it truly is. We look forward to next year's gala and know that it will be another success because of all that you do for Providence.
