Communities In Schools (CIS) is the nation’s leading organization dedicated to empowering students to stay in school and achieve in life.  Every year 1.2 million students drop out of school.  Every nine seconds, a student in America loses his or her path to a better future.  By empowering students to achieve in school and life, we are building a stronger America, where every person is capable of reaching his or her greatest potential.

In CIS, we have what we call the Five Basics, which are a set of beliefs that our work is based on:

  • A personal, one-on-one relationship with a caring adult;
  • A safe place to learn and grow;
  • A healthy start and a healthy future;
  • A marketable skill to use upon graduation; and
  • A chance to give back to peers and community.

In Delaware, Communities In Schools serve students in all 3 counties.  In Sussex and Kent counties, we are located in Dover High School, Milford Central Academy, Georgetown and North Georgetown Elementary.  Under our Wilmington Affiliate in New Castle County we serve in East Side Charter School, William Penn High School and Thomas McKean High School.
