Parent Guides to Common Core Standards

Parent Guides to Common Core Standards
These guides are intended to help parents understand the new standards and provide excellent overviews of what students will learn in each grade.

Each elementary and high school is being sent a copy of the National Parent Teacher Association’s: “Parent Guides on the Common Core State Standards.”  These guides are intended to help parents understand the new standards and provide excellent overviews of what students will learn in each grade.  The guides will also provide specific suggestions on what parents might discuss with their child and his/her teacher(s).  For more information about these guides, please visit the website at:  http://www.pta.org/4446.htm, there you will find a complete set of the guides as well as a web-based presentation.  Parents and teachers should be encouraged to look over the guides carefully and view the web-based presentation.

For additional information about the CCSS, parents and teachers may visit the CCSS website at:  http://www.corestandards.org/.  They may also watch the Viewpoints episodes dedicated to the CCSS at: http://www.video.k12.hi.us/viewpoints.  Episode #4 2010-2011:  Common Core Standards – Familiarity and Episode #7 2010-2011:  Common Core Standards – Implementation are dedicated to deeper understanding of the CCSS Initiative in Hawaii.
