Gail Borden Public Library
Katie Clausen currently serves as the Coordinator of Early Literacy Services at Gail Borden Public Library. Clausen became a librarian because she believes in the power of community change through storytelling.
Clausen loves Illinois libraries, and will share her passion during Explore 2017: A community, curriculum, and career expo at Elgin Community College on Oct. 14.
Clausen’s past positions include Manager of Children's Services at Midlothian Public Library and Children's Services Associate at Oak Park Public Library. She holds a Master of Library & Information Science from Dominican University, plus a Master of Arts in Children’s Literature and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Simmons College.
Clausen currently serves as President of Lincoln Story League, and was on ALSC’s Local Arrangements Committee in 2016-17. Her specialties include: early literacy, collection development, play-based learning, and best storytime practices.
The best part of being a librarian are the many hats she gets to wear. Most days, you can find her doing everything she loves-- planning large events, budgeting, leading writing workshops and movement programs, helping kids find books, tinkering with technology, collaborating with community agencies, and even singing with puppets! When she's not at the library, Clausen is either writing, doing yoga or circus, or hiking with her dog Opal! She will show you how to use your critical eye to evaluate picture books through art and text.
Come visit Clausen from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14 at the expo in building B at ECC.
