Reyes Estrada Jr Geothermalx2fHVAC Mechanic

Reyes Estrada Jr., Geothermal/HVAC Mechanic
Advocate Sherman Hospital

Before Reyes Estrada had even graduated Elgin High School, he had begun working in the Food & Nutrition department at Advocate Sherman Hospital. During that time, he went to the Environmental Technical Institute in Itasca to receive credentials and training for HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning). After trade school, he continued his education at Elgin Community College (ECC) and received his Associates in Applied Science for the HVAC and integrated system of technology. Around the time Estrada graduated ECC, Sherman moved into its new facility with a modern geothermal system. Estrada was up to speed with the latest technologies and was hired as a mechanic in their facilities department. Estrada remains connected to ECC; tutoring students and helping as an assistant instructor for the HVAC department.

Estrada shares one of the amazing facts about the geothermal system: All the condensation that come from the heat-pumps, storm roof, and parking lot runoff are drained back into the lake to replenish the water that is used for landscaping irrigation or that naturally evaporates.

“I am very passionate and happy in what I do; knowing that the equipment I service helps our patients stay comfortable.  I have received great work experience by helping to operate a facility that is environmentally friendly and energy efficient.  I am thankful for the support I have received from Advocate Sherman Hospital, to help me achieve my educational and career goals.”

Meet Estrada and learn more about a career in HVAC during Explore 2017 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14 in Building B at the ECC.
