ELGIN - School District U-46 students and staff are joining efforts to provide support and donations to survivors of the tropical cyclone that passed through southern Texas late last month. Staff and students in the state’s second largest district want to help all those dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey which dropped more than 50 inches of rain in the Houston area and has cost an estimated $75 billion in losses.
Several U-46 schools will lead events to help those in need. Students and staff at Elgin High School collected items last week, such as soap, shampoo, toothbrushes and toothpaste, to donate to Willow Creek Community Church. The South Barrington Church, in partnership with World Vision, sent a packed semi-truck with supplies to children affected by the hurricane.
