How to Become a Volunteer
It is easy to become a volunteer at Sea Park. All you need to sign up is a valid driver’s license or ID card. To sign up as a “Listed” volunteer, you must complete the on-line VIPS (Volunteers in Public Schools) form using the school’s computer in the front office. A background check (including criminal and sexual predator review) is completed during this process, which takes approximately 3 – 6 weeks. “Listed” volunteers are able to volunteer on school grounds under the direct supervision of a teacher or staff member, but cannot be left unattended with students. To become a “Registered” volunteer, you must submit to fingerprinting and a more extensive background check that must be completed at the Brevard County School Board offices in Viera. Volunteers applying for “Registered” status are responsible for paying fees of approximately $50 for the background check. “Registered” volunteers can volunteer in situations where there is more one-on-one interaction with students, such as mentoring or field trips.
