Students will explore literature by studying the four key literary elements- character, setting, plot, and theme. We will read works from various genres: novels, short stories, drama, nonfiction, poetry, myths, legends, and folk tales. The students will also read a number of required novels throughout the course of the school year. Novels will be read on both an individual and class basis.  Students will be taught the process of annotating books and its importance.  A great deal of reflective writing and essays will also be completed in this class.  Students will have the opportunity to do small group work in some areas of study utilizing a multitude of technology.  Public speaking skills will also be taught, practiced, and assessed in reading as well.
