Welcome Back from Principal Barnard

Welcome Back from Principal Barnard

Dear Tualatin High Families,

On behalf of the Tualatin High School Administrative Staff, I would like to welcome you to the 2017-2018 school year. This is my eighth year as Principal of Tualatin High School and I look forward to sharing exciting times with you and your student.

As a parent of four Tualatin High Students this year, I know how fast time goes by. One year your students enter 1st grade and in the blink of an eye you are preparing them for graduation.

I am proud of our staff and students and invite you to be involved at Tualatin High School as much as you can.The goal of our school is to provide each student with a challenging and rigorous curriculum appropriate to his/her academic level. Your children will receive the best education when you and our dedicated teachers work as a team.

One of the biggest indicators of success for High School students is attendance. Oregon state law requires that all students have regular attendance and with increased graduation requirements, we are concerned about students successfully meeting these requirements if they do not have at least a 95% attendance rate. Students will have 171 days of school next year and this means that we expect students to miss no more than 8.5 days total for the entire school year including vacation, Doctors appointments, sickness, etc. Please partner with us in getting your student to school in time and attend class every day so that they will be prepared for a bright future ahead of them. Together we can achieve great things and believe every student can be successful.

As your principal, you can expect that I will reach out to you and ask for your support, ideas, suggestions and involvement. I will encourage you to join our team, whose number one priority is preparing our children for the future. I pledge to do my level best to ensure that each child is challenged, nurtured and provided with a safe and stimulating learning experience. As we work together during the year, I invite you to stay in contact and let me know how you and your child are experiencing school. Through teamwork, open communication and a dedication to continuous improvement, we can continue to make Tualatin High an outstanding school. We hope all of you have had a terrific summer vacation and we are looking forward to working with you.

Please be aware of the following important Dates:

  • Back-to-School-Night: September 27 - 5:30-8:30pm
  • Parent Conferences: October 26 & 27

I look forward to working together as partners in your children’s education.

Sincerely,

Darin Barnard
