Ubah Medical Academy is very proud to announce the winners of our school’s Poetry Out Loud Contest. Our first place winner is Faiza Abubakar. Ayan Diriye won the second place prize. Both of these young women worked extremely hard to develop their poetic performances. Poetry Out Loud is an Ubah tradition as well as a very challenging national competition. Individual classrooms all over the country pick their best readers of poetry, who then go on to compete in readings in the school, the region, the state and finally the entire country. In order to do well, it is essential that each competitor understand the poem deep within themselves, so that they can use their voice and their body to express their interpretation. Both Faiza and Ayan chose poems that were very meaningful to them and which they could embody and express to an audience. Both young ladies further complicated their challenge by choosing poems that included Spanish. And yet, both young women made their poems seem like an exciting, but very natural part of themselves. Everyone at Ubah is proud of their accomplishment. Faiza will now go on to compete in the state championship and, Insha’Allah, to the national competition as well.
