Happy 2015! For many, it may be difficult to imagine that it crept in so quickly. At Valdez City Schools we are excited for the 2nd semester as we have a busy schedule coming up. With the State of Alaska focusing more and more on academics and attendance, I am excited to say Valdez will continue to rest at the top of the list. Congratulations to our students and staff (and parents) for an exemplary 1st semester!
Thank you to those that participated in the discussions surrounding the many drug/alcohol challenges that our students face. Although the drug testing policy was tabled indefinitely, the conversation brought the community together with promising support for additional discussions. Currently the school district is coordinating staff discussions that will soon be brought to the community for additional input. Topics will include policy/handbook awareness, the need for resource availability/development, aggressive staff training and support, curriculum awareness/needs, and coach’s support. Please contact the District Office to be placed on our email list for updated information as well as upcoming meeting times/places. Survey data recently found on the front page of our website is now located with the Board of Education page.
