The 2018 UH Mānoa GEAR UP Moku o Loʻe (Coconut Island) Overnight Exploration will be with the Hawaiʻi Institute of Marine Biology (HIMB) located on Moku o Lo`e in Kaneohe Bay.
Moku o Loʻe is a unique living laboratory surrounded by 64 acres of coral reef designated by the State of Hawaiʻi as a Hawaiʻi Marine Laboratory Refuge. HIMB is the research unit within the University of Hawaiʻi’s School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST) and home to world-class facilities for researchers and students in wide-ranging disciplines related to tropical marine science.
This program will introduce students to marine biology and scientific research, as well as provide an understanding of the connection between coastal resources and the effects of human impacts and climate change on the ecosystem.
