This is a very important safety message from Wapato Public Schools for all of our families. Wapato police are investigating a case of attempted luring on 6th street between Simcoe street and South Camas Avenue around 7:00 this morning (4/28/17). A hispanic man reported to be in his 40s driving a newer white chevrolet, 4-door sedan stopped a female middle school student walking to school and asked if she wanted a ride. She refused and made it to school safely. When the District was informed of the incident it alerted bus drivers and other staff to be on the lookout for the vehicle and individual driving it. District crossing guards were also kept on duty for an extended period of time to ensure all students arrived safely to school. We ask that you remind your students not to accept rides from strangers and if they are approached by a stranger to immediately call 9-1-1. We thank you for your attention to this matter. The District is continuing to work with law enforcement regarding this incident.
