Minnesota State Law requires all children ages 3 to 5 be screened before entering kindergarten. Early Childhood Screening is provided by the state of Minnesota and your local school district free of charge to indicate that young children are healthy, well equipped and ready for learning when they enter kindergarten. The screening takes approximately 1 hour and includes vision and hearing screening, height and weight, nutrition assessment, immunization review, age appropriate development screening and a family factors review.
This is a special time for your child. Please make arrangements for siblings, as daycare will not be provided.
When you come to Early Childhood Screening, please bring:
- Your Child’s Birth Certificate
- Your Child’s Immunization Record
"Early childhood development screening helps a school district identify children who may benefit from district and community resources available to help in their development. Early childhood developmental screening includes a vision screening that helps detect potential eye problems but is not a substitute for a comprehensive eye exam."
