DIBELS READING GOALS
Initial Sound Fluency (ISF) and Phonemic Segmentation Fluency (PSF) these skills are your childs ability to identify sounds in spoken words. It is an indicator of how well your child can HEAR the FIRST SOUNDS. The goal is 8 at the beginning of year and 25-25 by the middle of the year. These are not assessed at the end of the year.
Letter Naming Fluency (LNF) is your child's ability to IDENTIFY upper and lower case letter in any order. It is an indicator of your child's knowledge of the letters of the alphabet. The beginning of the year goal is 8, middle of the year goal is 27, and 40 by the end of the year. The letters are in random order of uppercase, lowercase, and different print/font styles.
Nonsense Word Fluency (NWF) is your child's ability to KNOW the letters and sounds in written words. It is an indicator of how well your child knows the sounds of the letters or is able to blend sounds into words with a goal of 25 by the end of the year. This skill is also asssessed at the middle of the year.
Word Usage Fluency (WUF) is your child's ability to correctly use orally given words in a sentence. A word is orally given to your child and he/she must use the word in a sentence. No set goal. Of course, the more he/she uses correctly reflects their word/vocabulary usage skill.
