Local School Council
The Whitney Young Local School Council’s primary responsibilities are to help govern and improve the school. The LSC works in partnership with the entire school community to foster high academic standards; support students’ needs; engage and empower families; retain and support effective teachers, leaders and staff; and ensure fiscal and operational integrity and accountability.
The LSC is comprised of the principal, three teacher and staff representatives, one elected student representative, six elected parent representatives and two elected community representatives. Serving as a volunteer advisory board to the principal and Administration, they work together to approve and oversee the school’s budget, the Continuous Improvement Work Plan (CIWP), principal selection and the annual principal evaluation.
The Whitney Young LSC meets the third Wednesday of every month during the school year. Students, parents, teachers and staff, and community members are encouraged to attend and lend a voice to the important issues concerning our school.
