The Buckhannon-Upshur High School facility opened to around 1,250 students from the entire Upshur County area in 1977. Today, Buckhannon-Upshur High School offers a broad scope of curriculum, providing academic, vocational and technical preparation in language and the arts. The school also offers a variety of classes ranging from remedial to honors and AP. Honors classes include calculus, computer science, and engineering. A tech prep program has offerings aimed at students who may want to complete an associate degree in a technical program rather than working for a four-year degree. Vocational education is one of the best educational routes offered at Buckhannon-Upshur High School. The classes can be taken at the high school or Fred W. Eberle Technical Center. A fine music program welcomes interested students with offerings in both vocal and instrumental music, as well as musical theater. Extracurricular sports programs are available for both male and female students. In addition, numerous programs are available for groups with special interests. On site facilities include the following: auditorium, gymnasiums, football stadium, baseball stadium, soccer stadium, recreational pool, and park all situated on several acres of woodland crisscrossed by nature trails.
