The Education Act is in the process of being eevised to reflect the recent MOU to reduce up to 100 hours of instructional time for teacher collaboration and professional development. While many are in support of the initiative and the promise of imrpoved staff and student wellness and outcomes, som parents are voicing their displeasure with the MOU. Concerns focus on the impact of fewer hours of instruction on the quality of education and the increased child care costs/demands.
In response to strong public and MLA response, the government has offered more funding than was initially announced for the implementation of Junior Kindergarten. Aurora College's teacher education program which is operated in partnership with the University of Saskatchewan will also continue to be funded.
