The Education Transformation project continues in British Columbia with a focus on the Graduation Years and communicating student learning. Redesigned provincial assessments (FSA) are being delivered and prototyped (Numeracy – Graduation Years). The system continues with implementing the redesigned K to 9 curriculum.
There Supreme Court ruling that resulted in boards to reverting to over 14,000 specific clauses in collective agreements related to non-enrolling staffing levels and class composition has resulted in districts working to hire an estimated 3500 teachers across the province. Approximately 3000 teachers have been hired to date. Districts are facing challenges finding qualified teachers in specialized areas and maintaining Teachers Teaching on Call Lists. The province and districts work to implement remedies for those districts and classrooms that are not able to meet the restored language.
