Sunday, March 2, 2014 Water situation update at H.E. White Elementary School:
Governor Tomblin has ordered more stringent testing in place for areas affected by the Water Emergency. New tests require levels of less than 2 parts per billion of MCHM.
HE White Elementary School met the previous requirements of 10 parts per billion and tests are currently being done to meet the more strict standard of less than 2 parts per billion.
We expect the water to be approved for hand washing very soon. For now, we will continue to use bottled water for cooking and drinking.
The ICE MOUNTAIN bottled water provided through the National Guard and/or Emergency Services will not be used for drinking or cooking for now. Complaints surfaced earlier regarding a musty odor to the bottle water from ICE MOUNTAIN. The Clay County Department of Health has been notified and is looking into the ICE Mountain bottled water situation.
Clay County obtains bottled water in 5 gallon containers which will be used for drinking (using dispensing machines) and cooking.
The kitchen has been approved for use by the Department of Health. However, bottled water will be used in any food preparation until further notice to assure the safety of all students and staff. Water testing has been done by the WV National Guard in cooperation with the Clay County Health Department.
