TO: West Virginia County Superintendents
FROM: Boyd Mynes, West Virginia Reading Association
Chairperson, Administrators in Reading
SUBJECT: Posting of West Virginia Reading Association and International Reading Association
on county websites
DATE: April 13, 2011
As a West Virginia county superintendent, I am sure that you are aware of the valuable services that are provided to both West Virginia students and educators by the West Virginia Reading Association and the International Reading Association. Both of these worthy organizations provide current research in regard to the teaching of reading. With local councils located within most West Virginia counties, WVRA and the IRA are actively promoting the joy of reading through their various publications, professional communities, professional development opportunities, awards and grants and various researched based projects. As a current elementary school principal, I often find the services provided by these two organizations to be invaluable as my staff and I search for researched based solutions to the challenges presented by our every changing curriculum.
As the current chairperson for the West Virginia Reading Association’s Administrators in Reading, I have been charged with the task of promoting both of these organizations within our great state. WVRA and the IRA are dependent upon its memberships to sustain the present level of services as well as to grow and expand. The purpose of this e-mail is to request your support toward this goal. I am contacting all of our West Virginia county superintendents to request consideration toward posting both the WVRA and the IRA websites addresses on your local county website. This would help expand our exposure to the network of West Virginia educators, parents and students and spark more interest in becoming a WVRA and IRA member. I know that several of you already have our sites listed on your websites. If this is the case in your county, THANK YOU for your support. If this is not the case, won’t you please consider adding these two organizations to your home page? The web addresses for these two organizations are as follows: West Virginia Reading Association http://www.wvreading.com International Reading Association http://reading.org
I would like to thank you in advance for your consideration of this request. Should you have any questions, please contact me by e-mail at bmynes@access.k12.wv.us, by phone at Martha Elementary School, 304-733-3016 (Cabell County) or by cell at 304-417-1334es
