Hours, policies, services and more

This library serves students, faculty, and staff of Cab Calloway School of the Arts and The Charter School of Wilmington. This library supports the educational goals of the two schools by collecting, organizing and providing access to information resources and by teaching students to become effective information problem solvers.

Monday through Friday: 7:20 am - 3:00pm; (closed 11:10-11:45am for lunch).

Library access is also available to students during after school activities held in the library.

 Collections include:

  • Books
  • Magazines
  • Newspapers (online)
  • Reference/research materials
  • Video
  • Audio
  • Online databases
  • Internet access

Loan Period:
The loan period for most library books is two weeks. Reference books and magazines may be borrowed for one class period or overnight by special arrangement with Mrs. Tise.

Video materials are available to teachers only for a one week loan .

Please note that the library may set loan periods based on availability or type of materials.

Renewals: Library materials may be renewed if they are not reserved for another user.

Returns: Returning materials on time makes those items available to more people. The book drop at the library entrance is available for after-hour returns. Any overdue fine can be settled at your next library visit.

Overdues: An overdue item is one that is not returned by the due date. The library checkout system blocks any loan until all items are returned and any fines and fees are paid.

Fines and Fees: Fines for most overdue library materials are five cents per day. If materials are lost, you are responsible for the cost of the lost item(s). If a lost item is found and returned to the library, you are responsible for owed fines, but may receive a refund for the replacement cost of the item.

Reserves: The library checkout system allows users to place a reserve on most items. Once an item becomes available, the borrower will be notified. The borrower must pick up the item by the specified date.

Electronic and AudioVisual Resources:

The library and two additional computer labs are available for class visits. Each lab space houses 32 computers (PC machines running Windows XP). All computers offer access to the library catalog, UDLibSEARCH databases, and the Internet. Additional resources include Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), web authoring software (Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash), software for creating video and audio presentations (Windows MovieMaker, Audacity), and software to create graphic organizers (Inspiration).

Each lab (including the library) offers either an LCD projector and SmartBoard, or a large classroom-size monitor.

In addition, the library houses a mobile laptop cart with wireless access point and 30 laptops.

Teachers can reserve computer time in a lab or a cart for classroom use by working with Mrs. Tise. Library calendars are now online; check for availability day or night!

Additional resources include a Sony Handycam video camera with tripod, headphones with microphones, external DVD recorder and external floppy drive. See Mrs. Tise to arrange for use of these items.
